Taking Expo 2023 Doha a step closer to the grand opening and assessing its preparations, a delegation of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) recently visited the Expo House at Al Bidda Park and met with HE the Minister of Municipality Dr Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki al-Subaie and expo Secretary General Mohamed al-Khoury.
According to an official press statement from the Expo Doha 2023 organisers, the delegation’s main purpose was to evaluate the preparations and confirm Expo 2023 Doha’s readiness for its grand opening. The delegation, according to the statement, was headed by BIE Secretary General Dimitri S. Kerkentzes.
The Secretary General lauded the commitment of the Expo 2023 Doha organising committee in ensuring a seamless and extraordinary experience for attendees. The Secretary General also had the opportunity to discuss the significance of Qatar’s future role in supporting sustainable development.
Beginning at the Expo House, the BIE delegation had the opportunity to witness first-hand the progress and meticulous planning that has been undertaken by the organising committee. They were given an extensive tour of the Expo site, providing them with valuable insights into the immersive experiences that await visitors.
Al Bidda Park has made remarkable progress in its infrastructure development, which was recently assessed by the delegation. This park is set to host Expo 2023 Doha, a six-month-long event that will commence on October 2, 2023, and conclude on March 28th, 2024. Expo 2023 Doha will provide a range of activities and entertainment for everyone, including ministers and official delegations from more than 80 participating countries, business visitors, horticulture enthusiasts, tourists, families, and children.
With the final preparations put in place, Expo 2023 Doha eagerly awaits the arrival of 3 million visitors from across the globe. With a focus on innovation, sustainability, culture, and entertainment, this event promises to be a historic and unforgettable experience.
HE the minister said that the organisers are delighted to host the esteemed delegation from BIE to showcase ‘our progress and venues for Expo 2023 Doha’. “The first event of its kind in the MENA region, Expo will be a major attraction for visitors from all around the world and the region and bring sustainability to the forefront of the public discussions,” HE the minister said.
“The first Horticultural Expo to be organised in the Middle East is now in its final stages of preparation, with the finishing touches being made to ensure a unique visitor experience from October. In less than 100 days, I look forward to discovering the beautiful, innovative, and inspirational gardens and exhibits inspired by the Expo’s underlying goal of mitigating desertification and promoting sustainability,” BIE president said.
Al-Khoury said Expo 2023 Doha aims to attract cutting-edge global technologies to combat desertification, modernise agriculture and save water resources. “By hosting this event, we are raising awareness about the importance of more sustainable livelihoods and sending a powerful sustainability message to all visitors and particularly younger generations,” he noted.
Expo 2023 Doha is set to run between October 23 – March 24 at Al Bidda Park while being the first ever A1 horticultural exhibition held in the MENA region. The event is supported by the leading companies and organisations including Microsoft, Qatar Airways, Hamad International Airport (HIA), Hassad Foods, Qatar Basketball Federation and Gulf Organisation for Research and Development (GORD).
Organised and Led by the Ministry of Municipality, Expo 2023 Doha is conceived in line with the guiding principles of Qatar National Vision 2030 that puts environmental management and sustainable development at the heart of its mission. It aims to reach more than 3 mn visitors. Expo Doha 2023 will offer guests an opportunity to visit ornamental gardens, attend public debates, conferences, live shows and enjoy art and culinary performances in the dedicated area in AI Bidda Park spanning across 1.7 mn sq m and facing the azure waters of the Arabian Gulf.
Under the auspices of the Bureau Internationale Des Expositions (BIE) and International Association for Horticultural Producers (AIPH), the exhibition draws international visitors and organizers from 80 countries as well as the national and international related Industries, government entities and officials local regional and international non-governmental organisations commercial affiliates. The theme of Expo 2023 Doha is “Green Desert, Better Environment” as it aims to encourage sustainable innovation and reduce desertification. It will inspire visitors to take part in the change through 4 sub-themes. These are modern agriculture, technology and innovation, environmental awareness and sustainability.
BIE is the intergovernmental organisation in charge of overseeing and regulating all international exhibitions that last more than three weeks and are of non-commercial nature. Headquartered in Paris, BIE is a key international stakeholder of organising Expo 2023 Doha.
